    A new European Framework for Quality and Effective Apprenticeships, agreed this week by employment ministers, sets out key criteria for apprenticeships and will help Member States introduce or upgrade their apprenticeship programmes, helping them deliver on their potential. Apprenticeships are sometimes seen as education of second choice. Yet by combining learning in school with training in a workplace, apprenticeships are in fact an extremely efficient pathway towards a profession.
