    Hungary joined the European Union in 2004 and is currently preparing to adopt the euro.

    Surface area: 93 030 km2
    Population: 10 064 000 (Eurostat 2007, provisional figure)
    Joined the European Union: 1 May 2004
    Currency: forint (HUF)

    Euro information

    Hungary is not yet a member of the euro area. The forint is not yet within the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II).

    The current euro to forint foreign exchange reference rate can be consulted on the website of the European Central Bank (updated daily).

    Hungary does not have a target date to adopt the euro.
