    As the British cabinet struggles to agree a form of customs union which is not immeasurably worse and against British interests than the actual EU Customs Union, the EU on 1 July rightly celebrated its Customs Union’s 50th anniversary. What is it, many Brexit voters might need to ask? It is a trade agreement between states which abolishes tariffs on goods traded with each other and creates a common tariff on products entering from non-member countries. The substantial reductions in administrative and financial barriers to trade have made the EU the world’s largest trading bloc.
