(LUXEMBOURG) – 65 per cent of individuals in the European Union engaged in streaming TV or videos online in 2022, according to a set of figures released Tuesday by the EU’s statistics agency Eurostat.

In 24 out of the 27 EU countries, more than half of individuals aged 16-74 used the internet to watch streamed TV or videos.

Finland boasted the highest share at 93%, followed by the Netherlands (90%) and Denmark (89%).

While at the other end of the range, 34% of individuals in Romania streamed TV or videos online, 40% in Bulgaria and nearly 50% in Slovakia.

Internet streaming habits revealed a generational divide within the EU. In 2022, online streaming was particularly popular among young people, with 86% of individuals aged 16 to 24 years and 81% of those aged 25 to 34 years using the internet to stream TV or videos.

Conversely, as age increased, there was a decline in the number of individuals engaged in online streaming. Among people aged 55 to 64 years, 52% used the internet for streaming, while only 33% of those aged 65 to 74 years did the same.
