There are pros and cons to opening a business in any?European country. Yet one small nation that gets a lot of attention is Malta. With many technology and manufacturing businesses choosing to set up shop there, it could also be the right choice for your business. Below, we give the advantages of doing business in Malta.

    Strict but Clear Regulations

If you look closely, you will find that most of the big providers of online gambling services are registered in Malta. If not, then the best ones will comply with the rules and regulations set in place by the Malta Gaming Authority. They give concrete assurances on everything from fair play to data security. This is so that when people log on to play casino games and free bingo at Paddy Power and other big names, they know they are doing so with a brand name they trust. Much of this is down to the shaping of the industry that has taken place in Malta. In such a new industry with a confusing landscape, the country managed to be clear and to the point about what is expected.?

This can be found in everything, and it is not just gambling providers that benefit from it either. From how to set up businesses to taxation, the laws are clearly defined and laid out. This makes the operation of a business extremely easy. They also change infrequently, so you do not have to keep abreast of constant shifts in policy regarding what you can and cannot do.?

    Taxation

Of course, Malta is favourable for taxation purposes and has some of the lowest corporate taxes in the EU. It has a system known as full-imputation. Any income tax paid by a company is credited to shareholders. With a standard rate of taxation at 35%, this method brings it down to around a 5% to 7% tax rate. For anyone who becomes a full resident, this can be even more favourable as you are only liable for certain incomes.?

It also has lots of double taxation treaties in place, from around seventy countries. This is to prevent your organization from paying taxes in two separate places. With this, you can reduce business costs drastically and use them to promote investment. This article from Immigrant Invest?breaks it down in more detail.??

    Geography

There are numerous geographical advantages to opening a business in Malta. Firstly, its position in the Mediterranean allows it direct access to most of the major transport hubs. From Malta International Airport, you can easily get to the world’s major cities fast. It also has direct access to all the European business hubs such as London and Paris.?

The country itself is also a great place to live. With stunning vistas, beautiful cities, and a temperate climate you can attract the best talent from around the world. With English as one of the main languages, there are no barriers here. In addition, many programmers and developers of a high calibre already reside in the country. This means you will always be able to recruit the best staff.
