Further and faster was the message to Europe at the climate action summit at the United Nations this week. The summit's aim was to advance climate action and to step up implementation of the Paris Agreement. Turning targets into concrete action is now most important. A lot of investment is needed if the EU is to become climate neutral by 2050. The new president-elect of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, plans to present a 'European Green Deal' in her first one hundred days in office. And if Europe is to reach its target, it will have to speed up efforts towards adopting a more ambitious climate target by early next year.
