EU's Solana holds phone talks with Iran nuclear negotiator

(BRUSSELS) - EU foreign policy chief javier Solana held telephone talks on Monday with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and further contacts are possible, Solana's office said.

No details of the talks were given.

Solana represents the six major powers involved in negotiations aimed at persauding Tehran to freezes its uranium erichement programme -- Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.

Their talks came days after European Union nations toughened its sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme, including restrictions on public loans and tougher cargo inspections.
