The Commissioners and their Spokespersons
Charlie McCreevy is Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services. His responsibilities focus on free movement of services and capital, but he is also involved in any initiative to develop the internal market, as well as to challenge member states for infringements of agreed rules. As Irish Finance Minister from 1997 to 2004, he gained a very strong reputation as a supporter of free markets, and indeed is regularly credited with much of Irelands economic success in that period.
