This week, the European Commission holds an event on boosting the bioeconomy in the agri-food sector, and launches the EU Energy & Raw Materials Platform; we have the European Space Forum; and MEPs in committee debate a proposal on fighting money-laundering and the financing of terrorism. Fighting money-laundering and the financing of terrorism: MEPs from the Economic Affairs and Civil Liberties committees and Financial Services Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque will debate the Commission’s recent proposal to modify the list of high-risk third countries relating to combatting money-laundering and the financing of terrorism. MEPs can block the update with an objection within two months if they so choose.
Plenary preparations: political groups will prepare for the 7 – 10 July plenary session, where MEPs will review the June European Council and look ahead at the upcoming EU-China summit. They will debate the priorities of the Danish Council Presidency which starts on 1 July with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. MEPs will also discuss the situation in the Middle East, in particular developments in Iran, the security of energy supply in the EU, as well as the EU’s preparedness in light of the upcoming wildfire season. They will debate and vote on the EU accession progress of Georgia, Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina and North Macedonia. There will also be votes on Bulgaria’s adoption of the Euro on 1 January 2026, and on the human cost of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the urgent need to end Russian aggression.

Boosting the bioeconomy in the agri-food sector

The new Bioeconomy Strategy, due for adoption by the end of 2025, aims to advance innovation and maintain the EU’s leadership in the bioeconomy. It will propose actions to unlock the potential of bioeconomy innovations, so that they can reach the market, generating green jobs and growth. The strategy will also focus on reinforcing circularity and sustainability. This online workshop will present examples of the bioeconomy in the agri-food sector. The presentations – each including a short Q&A – will be followed by a discussion with all participants. This discussion will be based on questions that will be shared in advance.

Boosting apprenticeships: 2025 EAfA High-Level Event to support the Union of Skills and the Clean Industrial Deal

The 2025 edition of the High-Level Event coincides with the European Commission’s announcement of two major new initiatives: the Union of Skills and the Clean Industrial Deal. Both emphasize the crucial role of apprenticeships in fostering a skilled, inclusive, and competitive European workforce.
The EAfA High-Level Event will showcase how apprenticeships concretely support these two initiatives. Key topics to be addressed include: developing skills for clean technologies and green industries, enhancing gender equality in apprenticeships, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and ensuring the skills needed for a resilient and future-ready Europe.

Implementation Dialogue – Data Policy

The Implementation Dialogue with Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, will gather a selected group of stakeholders to discuss the state of play and level of implementation of the current data policy.
It specifically aims to identify solutions for streamlining and simplifying data regulation. The Implementation Dialogue will contribute to the preparations of the digital package on simplification planned for later this year.
