How multi-foils can save you time and money

If you are looking to reduce the cost of running your property or better yet, save labour time and effort on a loft conversion, then you might look to insulating it using multi-foils.

As you may already know, insulation creates an extra thermal barrier between the inside and the outside of any building, vehicle or appliance. Insulation, however, comes in many different forms. You will ideally want to pick one that’s appropriate for your needs. Of the available candidates, foil insulation stands out as particularly interesting. Let us take a look at it now.

    What is multi-foil insulation?

Multi-foil insulation is a special type of insulation designed for efficiency. Insulation of this type can be very effective, even if you only have limited space available. It works by stacking layers of foil, with layers of wadding in between. In this sense, it works in a similar way to the double-glazing in your windows. It’s a popular alternative to more traditional mineral wool insulation.

How it compares to mineral wool insulation

Insulation normally works by restricting the ability of heat to flow through a given substance by limiting heat conduction. Foil insulation works in a slightly different way, reflecting radiated heat back in the direction it’s just come from.

It is difficult to make direct comparisons between foil and wool insulation because every manufacturer measures performance in a slightly different way.

What are the benefits of multi-foil insulation?

So, why might we prefer multi-foil insulation to the alternative? There are a few reasons.

First, it tends to be very easy to install. It doesn’t come in rigid board form, so there’s less struggle in handling it. You can easily attach it to a ceiling in just a matter of moments, making it a great time-saver.

Second, the material is lightweight and thin. This means that it can be easily cut to size with a hand-saw ? or even with scissors. If you have a length of floor or ceiling space that needs to be covered, you can easily tailor the insulation to fit. They can also be installed into very tight spaces, which makes them ideal for ceilings, sheds and loft conversions where there isn’t much room for the alternative.

The lightweight nature of this material also makes it more easily transported and carried, which can be a major advantage for firms and homeowners who do not want to have to store and transport reel upon reel of steel wool.

All these things will be particularly useful if you run your own construction/renovation business; as you and the people you work with will all benefit from safer, easier and faster installation practices. Put all of this together and you should even make some savings on your operational costs.

In other respects, multi-foil insulation works in a similar way to the alternatives. Since this insulation works via reflecting, it will keep a space warm during summer, and hot during the winter. With its help, you’ll be able to save a considerable amount on your energy bills, and help to save the natural world in the process. What better upgrade could there be?
