How to Stand Out in the Competitive EU Business Market

As a business owner in the European Union, it feels harder than ever to make your business stand out. It feels like you’re being squeezed by competition on all sides. Or, if you are only just preparing to get your business off the ground, you may have concerns that your industry is just far too crowded for you to make an impact.

Official statistics confirm this level of competition. Eurostat notes that, in 2015, the EU-28 business economy had more than 26 million enterprises and approximately 144 million people employed. That’s 144 million people working hard to be successful, beating your company out in any way that they can. That means you need to work hard to stay on top!

    What is Your USP?

The first step towards making your business stand out is defining your USP or Unique Selling Point. Your USP, as the name suggests, is the thing that you do better than all of your competitors; something that no one else can offer. Is it your award-winning customer service? Or the massive experience that you bring to the table? WordStream says that crafting a killer USP is all about knowing your ideal customer and their needs and wants. That’s not an easy thing to figure out but once you have it sorted, you’ll be able to use it in your branding and your marketing campaigns.

    Become a Savvy Marketer

Speaking of marketing, it’s also of huge importance that you think smarter about your marketing plans. You won’t want to use the same old marketing campaigns that use the same advertising tropes because these just won’t strike a chord with customers. In fact, they’ll make you blend in rather than stand out from your rivals. But what does a savvy marketing plan look like? In 2018, savvy marketing includes content marketing, SEO (ensuring your site ranks highly in search engine results), and using email and social media, says GrowthSupermarket. In order to market your business effectively, you need to be using the marketing channels that your target audience is using. And while you may not know much about crafting compelling content or making things viral on Twitter, this is something you will have to learn.

    Be Prepared to Learn

In fact, a successful business owner is always prepared to learn things, not just new marketing techniques. The world of business moves quickly – especially the EU business economy – meaning you will need to adapt quickly to the changing times. That may mean learning a new language, a sales tactic, or something else entirely that you just haven’t thought of. FastCompany‘s top tips for learning things include taking notes by hand, taking a study nap, and changing up your learning methods. These are invaluable lessons for future learning opportunities.

Becoming a successful business owner requires more than the advice above. It requires huge amounts of hard work and effort. But these suggestions are still important to consider as you aim for EU business success.
