ECB President Christine Lagarde: MEPs in the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will hold their regular debate with European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde, during which they are expected to address, among other topics, the implications for monetary policy of geopolitical tensions. The debate takes place right after the ECB decision to raise interest rates.

Combating child sexual abuse: Parliament and Council negotiators will attempt to reach an agreement to update the EU directive on combating and preventing child sexual abuse (CSA). The aim is to criminalise new offences based on latest technology (live-streaming and AI-created material), expand statutes of limitations, and strengthen children’s rights.

EU Civic tech hackathon (22–23 June 2026)
As highlighted in the European Democracy Shield, the Commission will stimulate innovation in online platforms that enable participation in democracy (“civic tech”), including local digital platforms supporting democratic engagement and leveraging AI for participatory purposes. To launch engagement with the civic tech sector, the Commission is organising an EU Civic Tech Hackathon to showcase innovative projects and mobilise a diverse European community of practitioners.

10th Ministerial on Climate Action

The European Union, Canada and China bring together Ministers and representatives from 30 governments, and officials from international organisations, for annual ministerial meetings on climate action. The EU is hosting the next meeting in Brussels. This meeting will be the 10th Ministerial on Climate Action (MoCA10).

Military mobility: the Security and Defence and Transport and Tourism committees will adopt their position on measures to facilitate the transport of military equipment, goods and personnel across the EU. The measures include an online tool to clear military movement permissions, an emergency framework for the swift deployment of forces, and a solidarity pool to share resources.
Digital euro: the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will vote on a proposal to set up the digital euro, a new digital form of central bank money, alongside euro banknotes and coins. The purpose of the legislation is to regulate the main aspects of the digital euro to ensure the same rules and conditions are applied throughout the euro area.
EU-Mexico agreement: the International Trade and Foreign Affairs committees will vote on whether to recommend the adoption of the EU-Mexico Modernised Global Agreement, and on the accompanying interim report setting out MEPs’ assessment and expectations. Parliament’s approval is needed for the treaty to enter into force.
European Democracy Shield: the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield will adopt its recommendations on how the EU can strengthen its ability to detect, deter, and counter foreign information manipulation and interference and other hybrid threats. They cover issues such as election integrity, independent media and civil society, digital enforcement, and civil preparedness.
“Brussels dialogue” with Russian democratic forces: Parliament will host the second edition of the “Brussels dialogue” conferences, gathering representatives of Russian democratic forces and anti-war activists alongside EU institutions, member states, partners and experts.
Interinstitutional legislative negotiations
Digital travel application: Parliament and Council negotiators will work towards an agreement to set up a digital travel application system based on identity documents that can be submitted for pre-clearance to shorten waiting times when entering the EU.

The European Commission’s Better Homes Partnership, announced in the European Affordable Housing Plan, aims to accelerate affordable and high-quality home renovations, decarbonise heating systems, and stimulate the uptake of innovative solutions through projects on the ground. The online workshop will bring together experts and stakeholders to share practical examples and experiences on unlocking demand-side flexibility from buildings and identify barriers which could be addressed at EU level.

High-Level event on democracy 2026
