Priorities of the Cyprus Presidency: Cyprus’s ministers will continue holding hearings in the relevant parliamentary committees to present their priorities, with Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides in the Public Health Committee.
Plenary preparations: political groups will be preparing for the 9-12 February plenary session, where MEPs will debate and vote on EU-US political relations. They are also set to adopt new rules on asylum policy, including an EU list of safe countries of origin, and to determine whether non-EU countries may be considered safe third countries. Also high on the agenda will be votes on a new and binding EU 2040 climate target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and a safeguard clause for the EU-Mercosur agreement to prevent imports from harming Europe’s agriculture sector. Plenary will also discuss and vote on new rules to support EU wine producers, and on the priorities and activities of the European Central Bank (with President Christine Lagarde). The session will also feature debates on the Commission’s action plan against cyberbullying and a new EU anti-poverty strategy. During a formal sitting, MEPs will hear from Annalena Baerbock, President of the United Nations General Assembly.

Estimating the cancer burden in the EU: Insights from the European Cancer Information System

This #EUHPP Live Webinar co-organised with European Commission Joint Research Centre will dive into the recently released cancer incidence and mortality estimates for 2024 in the European Union, presented in the European Cancer Information System (ECIS). 5th European Code Against Cancer For the occasion of World Cancer Day – Launch in all EU languages

The ECAC5 brings together 14 evidence-based recommendations addressing personal behaviours, environmental factors and medical interventions for the general population across the European Union.
While focused on cancer prevention, many of these recommendations also contribute to the prevention of other non-communicable diseases, supporting healthier lives and improved well-being. Together, the ECAC5 recommendations offer a clear, accessible guidance to reduce cancer risk, and address common misconceptions about cancer, ensuring that reliable cancer prevention information is accessible to everyone, in every EU language.

Workshop on the certification of livestock emission reductions

DG CLIMA is hosting a half-day workshop to present the on-going work to develop a pilot EU certification for livestock emission reductions. This work is in the context of the assessment whether to include GHG emission reductions from livestock activities in the scope of the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation.
The purpose of the workshop is to present a Technical Assessment Paper, reviewing current methodologies, scientific literature, mitigation practices, EU policies, and case studies, which will inform the pilot; the findings from previous stakeholders’ engagement activities, including the most recent public survey, will also be discussed.

EU long-term budget (MFF): the Budgets Committee will discuss the amendments tabled to the draft interim report on the Commission’s proposal for the 2028-2034 multiannual financial framework (MFF). More than a thousand amendments have been tabled by MEPs. The interim report, expected to be put to a plenary vote in May, will be the basis for Parliament’s negotiating mandate on the next MFF.
