EuroCommerce – the association representing retailers and wholesalers in Brussels – supports yesterday’s political agreement on the Digital Omnibus on Artificial Intelligence, as long as it brings much-needed simplification and clarity to the implementation of the AI Act.

The conclusion of interinstitutional negotiations on the first Omnibus package today, marks a major setback for the EU’s corporate sustainability framework, with a decision to weaken the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

EuroCommerce acknowledges the European Commission’s Quality Jobs Roadmap, but urges caution. With competitiveness a top priority, the retail and wholesale sector calls for balance, not more complexity. EuroCommerce says the focus should remain on better enforcement, dialogue and capacity building.
