This week, the EU is mostly on holiday. European Parliament Delegations will be in Washington to discuss how to deepen ties with the U.S., and support for Ukraine; in California to discuss company mergers, venture capital and public financing; in Brazil to debate the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement and strengthening trade relations with Brazil; in Taiwan to democratic resilience, foreign interference, cybersecurity and disinformation campaigns; in Rome to examine Italy’s RRF governance and antifraud controls; and in Ireland for discussions on tax policies.

Poland took over the presidency of the EU on 1 January promising to strenthen European security in its external, internal, information, economic, energy, food, and health dimensions.

The European Parliament gave formal approval Wednesday to the new team and programme of EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, with her College of Commissioners expected to take office on 1 December.
