When it’s time to choose packaging materials, it can be overwhelming with so many choices available. Let’s look at a few factors that could ease the decision making process..

    Strength

Strength is a major factor to consider when choosing packaging. Check to ensure the packaging you are considering is strong. Based on the contents of the package, it will need to withstand handling, transportation, and much more.

To ensure your material is ready to meet your requirements, you will need to test it. The fragility of the product should also be considered. Packaging should be strong, but not so strong that it will damage the product. Whatever you choose, it should be right for you.

    Sustainable

Following that, you must also consider the sustainability of the packaging material you are considering. Consumers awareness about sustainability is growing. Some people refuse to purchase a product if it isn’t packaged in a sustainable manner.

Many companies that offer packaging materials, such as MDO PE films, provide sustainable materials you can trust. The use of this type of material also reduces a company’s carbon footprint, which is good for the environment.

    Durability

Another important aspect to consider is durability. As much as you want products to leave your warehouse the fastest possible, some products will take some time to leave.

In order for your packaging to be durable, you need to ensure that it is both strong as well as resistant to rapid degradation. Degradation may occur faster for some materials than others. Be sure to pick the best options for your needs.

    Ease of Use

It’s vital that the packaging is easy to use. Customers dislike when packaging is too difficult to handle. You don’t want to package your items in packaging that your customers must cut open with a sledgehammer or a handsaw.

While that was a bit dramatic, you get the point. Test the packaging you’re considering, and make sure your customers are going to have an easy time with it. If you’re able to, have actual customers or third-party users test the packaging to make sure it’s user-friendly.

    Affordability

Your next consideration should be affordability. The packaging you choose can’t be too expensive or you’ll end up bleeding revenue, and that’s not a good thing for you.

As a business, you probably set a budget. It’s important to have a clear view of this budget, and don’t allow yourself to stray from the goal. You’ll put too much pressure on your company, which you don’t need. Be patient, and you’ll find packaging material that meets most of your criteria, and it’ll be within your price range.

    Availability

Be sure to consider availability. This refers to making sure the packaging material isn’t too obscure. If it is, then you might run into a bit of trouble in the future. If the packaging company you work with never goes under and always offers the best deals, then you’re golden.

The problem comes if the packaging company goes under or changes its prices. If the material is too hard to find, you might not find it elsewhere at a reasonable price. Your customers are used to your packaging; changing it is a bit risky. The chosen material must be available everywhere.

    Compliancy

Whatever you choose for your packaging, it has to be compliant with your industry. If it happens to be food, it has to be food grade. This is sort of obvious, but this little detail is often overlooked. Usually, business owners figure it out after spending some cash and wasting time on the wrong type of packaging.

You don’t want to be that business owner, so it’s best to keep this in mind and eliminate any company that isn’t offering the material needed to be compliant. Eliminating some of your options might sound counterproductive, but there are many options out there. Eliminating options make things more manageable for you, and it makes the search easier.

You’ve got all the factors you might need to choose the right packaging material for your business, products, and customers. Take your time. The right material can make a difference; it’s almost as important as design because these things help create your brand’s image.
