Key Considerations When Building a Business Website

A business website is crucial in an age where people expect that it will be easy to find you online. Additionally, a website can be the anchor for all your marketing and communication efforts. Because every business is different, every business website should be too. However, there are certain key elements and considerations to consider and keep in mind when building a business website.

    The Domain Name

Your domain name is how people will be able to reach your website and learn about your products and services. In addition to making a good first impression, your domain name is also important for SEO.

When choosing a domain name, you need to choose one that reflects your business and brand, but that is not too long. A longer domain name is harder to remember and type out. Second, it should be simple.

Do not use esoteric words, slang, or numbers in your domain name unless you have to. Lastly, ensure it is broad enough to accommodate future growth. You do not want to be locked in if you need to change to expand the business and the domain name would no longer be a reflection of what you do.

    Web Hosting

You should take web hosting very seriously, especially if you intend to start an e-commerce store at any point. Apart from storing your files, a web host determines how fast your website is. This determines user experience which in turn affects your search engine ranking. Shared hosting is a great option if you have a smaller website and few visitors but consider upgrading to a dedicated option if you want faster hosting.

    The Content Management System

You should be able to maintain and update your business website without much fuss, especially if you do not want to hire someone to do it for you. For this, you will need a content management system (CMS). A CMS is a program or application that sits on the backend, helping you manage various aspects of your website. For example, it can make it easy to add new posts, update your contact pages, or even manage your online store.

Some examples of popular CMSs include Drupal, Wix, Squarespace, and WordPress. WordPress is arguably the best option among all of these, although they all have pros and cons. WordPress is extremely fast, has a massive community behind it, has lots of free and paid plugins to help you add any functionality you require, and, importantly, there is a massive WordPress developer community.

A WordPress developer can build different types of websites using WordPress for your business including e-commerce platforms, membership sites, blogs, company websites, social media platforms, and many others. This versatility is another argument for using WordPress as the CMS on your business website.

    Frontend Design

No matter how fast your website is or how well you have implemented everything, people will still judge you based on your website’s design. Hire a designer to provide you with a well-thought-out and stunning front-end design that will wow your visitors.

Once you get the basics right, you can ensure your business website is much more effective and successful. The key considerations above are just a starting point and should lay a foundation for future content, marketing, and other online activities.
