    5 Sales Dashboard Design Best Practices

    Monitoring sales KPIs is a critical task in virtually any business. If you don’t have a clear sense of whether you’re reaching your sales goals, your business will be far less likely to fulfill its maximum potential.

    Luckily, monitoring sales KPIs can be relatively easy when you choose the right sales dashboard.

    A sales dashboard is a tool that allows all relevant stakeholders to easily access information regarding sales KPI data. The design of a sales dashboard is an essential component in its overall quality and value. A sales dashboard with a poor design will render the data it tracks much more difficult to monitor than it should be.

    That’s why it helps to be familiar with certain sales dashboard design best practices when choosing a dashboard for your business. They include the following:

    Room for Multiple KPIs

    Ideally, a sales dashboard will allow users to monitor and analyze KPI data as efficiently as possible. As such, the interface should provide room for tracking multiple KPIs on a single screen. Needing to load up a new screen or report every time you want to measure a new KPI will be cumbersome and time-consuming.

    Clear Labels

    It’s a basic point, but it’s also one that can be easy to overlook when designing a sales dashboard. The labels on a report that indicate which KPI is being monitored should be clear, easy-to-read, and noticeable. If they’re not, a user might waste time trying to determine which KPI a certain piece of data relates to. Or, they might even mistake one KPI for another, rendering any analysis of said KPIs useless.

    Multiple Types of Charts

    The right type of chart for visualizing one KPI may not be the right chart for another. To ensure you’re able to accurately and easily monitor all relevant sales KPIs, choose a dashboard whose design features allow for the inclusion of a range of charts and graphs.

    Mobile-friendliness

    Did you know that mobile Internet browsing is now more common than desktop Internet browsing? To an increasing degree, we’re relying on our mobile devices to perform tasks that used to be performed on traditional desktop computers.

    Thus, there’s a good chance that you and anyone else at your company who’s likely to use your sales dashboard will need to access it via a smartphone or tablet at various times. Because of this, it’s important that a sales dashboard be designed so that a user can easily scan it on a small mobile screen. Naturally, that means you’ll also want to use a sales dashboard that allows for mobile access in the first place.

    Just Enough Color

    You don’t want a sales dashboard report to be so filled with colorful charts and graphs that attempting to read it is overwhelming. Too much color can be a distraction.

    However, color can also help you easily separate one sales KPI from another. With that in mind, you should look for a sales KPI dashboard that allows users to incorporate enough color to keep KPIs separate, without bombarding a user with so much color that they find scanning a report difficult.

    Of course, there are many other features to consider when choosing a sales dashboard, such as ease-of-use and strong security. Just remember, selecting one with the right design qualities is also very important.
