Research is a huge part of education and is needed for countless tasks, like writing essays or conducting market analysis. The problem is that in order to conduct really good research, you need to be thorough and you should have strong skills. This is not something that happens overnight.

    Researching

The tips below will help you to quickly improve all your research skills for anything, ranging from making a list of best mattress to something very complex like analyzing who is more likely to buy a specific product.

    Set A Strict Schedule

Whenever deadlines exist, like when you have to write a research paper, a schedule is mandatory. The work that you do has to be divided into parts and you have to set time periods for all of them. Time periods can be utilized, like spending one entire week to do research for a chapter. However, deadlines tend to be better when they are stricter.

The best type of deadline to set is something like “I have to finish all the research for part 1 by June 15”. This will create some urgency and will get you going faster.

Teach Yourself To Determine Source Authority

Your research will only be as good as the sources that you use. Since technology evolved to the level it is at right now, there is a very good possibility that you will use the internet for at least a large part of the project. The problem is that the internet is filled with countless very bad sources that do not offer accurate information.

The general rule is to triple check every single information that you use in your research. If you do not do this, your entire project might be faulty. In addition, the sources that you use need to have the highest possible authority.

As a very simple example, if you research laws on traffic violations, a blog that is run by someone that had to pay a ticket is not a good source. A much better one would be a traffic police officer or a lawyer that represents people trying to get their tickets canceled.

    Use Wikipedia

    Wikipedia

Wikipedia can be an incredible source of information. The problem with it is that anyone can edit pages. This can lead to some bad sources being added. However, it is a great starting point to find very good information that will assist you in your projects.

As with the tip below, it is very important that you check the authority of the sources that you find through Wikipedia. If they are suitable, you can use them. If not, you can see what specialists say about the thing that you learned. In many cases, you will notice that sources listed in Wikipedia articles are very good. This is because there is a huge number of editors that check sources for readers.

    Teach Yourself To Ask Questions

Journalists are really good at research because they are taught to double-check the data they find and they always ask the tough questions. Whenever you get in touch with an authority figure that can be used for your research project, it is mandatory that you ask as many questions as possible. This will help you to identify new research channels that can be used as you might receive great recommendations.

    Take Your Time

Last but not least, setting aside the time that is needed to conduct really good research is not as easy as it might seem. It will take time to figure out how much time you need for research projects. However, after you nail it down, your predictions will be much more accurate.
