Professional Transcription Service: Pros and Cons

If you are thinking about hiring a professional transcription service, then it helps to know the pros and cons before you get started.

    Pro- Speed

One of the many bonuses of hiring a professional automated transcription service is that you will have your content delivered with lightning speed. Machines are able to turn things around much faster when compared to humans, and they also have a higher level of accuracy in some instances too.

    Pro- Spelling

When you have a professional typing up your transcription for you, you won’t have to worry about spelling. Your transcriptionist will know exactly how to spell a word even if it is specific terminology. If you have a software handle your transcription for you then this will get rid of any typos instantly too, and this can be a great way for you to get the best result without breaking the bank.

    Pro- Accessibility

Professional transcription services by Verbit are ideal if you want to be able to access your transcription anywhere at any time. When you get your transcription done online, you can print out a hard copy or you can even duplicate the file, so you have a copy across every device you have. You really can’t get this level of accessibility if you are typing out your own transcription by hand, and on top of that, you won’t have the same level of efficiency either.

    Pro- Time Stamping

You can easily find software that puts a timestamp on the transcript for you. You can usually choose the interval when you do this too, so you won’t have to worry about looking back or rewinding the audio to find out what time a phrase was spoken at.

    Con- Accents

It can be difficult for a transcription software to provide a text version of an audio file when you have regional accents. It can be difficult for a professional too. One thing that you should take note of is that the times have changed a lot and in this day and age, issues like this are rarely impactful when it comes to the overall level of quality.

    Con- Audio Challenges

Background noise can be a real challenge for any audio transcriptionist. Loud noise usually drowns out the person who is speaking, and this is an issue whether you use a professional transcriptionist or even a software download. The transcriptionist may also have to deal with stuttering, mumbling, whispering and more. As if that wasn’t enough, you also have to think about the feedback and technical interferences. Of course, there are ways that you can eliminate this issue, such as by having a flawless recording and also by limiting background noise as much as possible.

So there are plenty of pros to hiring a professional transcription service. There are also some cons too, but there are many ways for you to work around them and when you do, you will soon find that they don’t actually have an impact on the final recording.
