    This week, agriculture ministers discuss the post-2027 common agricultural policy, trade-related agricultural issues and support for the common fisheries policy for 2028-2034; the Commission holds events on 2025 Auction for Hydrogen Production, EU Access to Space and corporate R&D and innovation; and MEPs in committee vote on EU defence funding programmes, working conditions for trainees and discuss the priorities of the Danish Presidency. The week’s events in the European Union including EU Council, Commission and Parliament meetings from 22 to 27 September 2025.

    Council of the EU | Political meetings | Common Agricultural Policy | Fisheries

    Agriculture and Fisheries Council

    Brussels

    Over the course of a two-day meeting, the Agriculture and Fisheries Council will discuss the post-2027 common agricultural policy, trade-related agricultural issues and support for the common fisheries policy for 2028-2034. Moreover, fisheries ministers will hold an exchange of views on the upcoming EU-UK and EU-Norway and coastal states fisheries consultations for 2026. Fisheries ministers will also discuss ways of unlocking smarter and simpler fisheries regulations over an informal lunch.

    Innovation Fund Webinar – Innovation Fund 2025 Auction for Hydrogen Production (IF25 Hydrogen Auction)

    The Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action will host a webinar on the draft Terms and Conditions (T&Cs) for the Innovation Funds’ upcoming 2025 Auction for Hydrogen Production (IF25 Hydrogen Auction).

    The event will provide an overview of the main feedback received during the six-week public consultation ending on 14 September. The webinar will also offer participants the opportunity to ask any further questions.

    Reducing costs from air pollution and strengthening prevention

    This #EUHPP Live Webinar is co-organised with the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL). Air pollution is the top environmental threat to health and a key risk factor for all major chronic diseases. This will be the first of a series of webinars HEAL is organising in the fall on reducing costs from air pollution and strengthening disease prevention. The main questions we want to tackle in this kick-off webinar are:

    – What are the health costs of air pollution in the EU?

    – What is the investment gap to tackle air pollution?

    EU defence industry: MEPs in the Industry, Research and Energy Committee will vote on a series of changes to existing EU funding programmes to allow the financing of defence-related technologies and products. In line with the ReArm Europe plan, the aim is to boost the EU’s defence preparedness and encourage strategic investments by EU countries in critical defence capabilities.

    Quality traineeships: the Employment and Social Affairs Committee will adopt its position on a new EU bill that seeks to improve working conditions for trainees, while also combating abusive practices, such as regular employment relationships disguised as traineeships. The new rules would regulate traineeship contracts on issues such as duration, remuneration and access to social protection.

    Danish Presidency priorities: the Committees on Industry, Research and Energy and on Economic and Monetary Affairs will discuss the priorities of the Danish Presidency of the Council in their respective fields of responsibility with Denmark’s Minister of Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund, and its Minister for Economic Affairs, Stephanie Lose (Tuesday and Wednesday).

    2025 Sakharov Prize: Members of the Foreign Affairs and Development Committees and the Human Rights Subcommittee will present the political groups’ nominations for the 2025 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The vote on the three finalists and the announcement of the laureate will take place in October. The award ceremony will follow in December, in Strasbourg.

    EU trade policy: the International Trade Committee will have a first discussion with Commission representatives on the proposed changes to EU customs duties legislation to implement the EU-US deal on tariffs. They will also debate the latest developments in EU trade policy with Sabine Weyand, Director-general of DG Trade at the Commission. EU-India trade relations are also on the agenda (Wednesday and Thursday).
