Sarkozy reports climate talks progress after Obama meeting
(COPENHAGEN) - French leader Nicolas Sarkozy said efforts to reach a climate pact had made progress Friday after he and several other European leaders held talks with US President Barack Obama.
"Yes, there's been progress," the French president told reporters on the sidelines of the climate summit in the Danish capital.
Obama met on Friday evening with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, who is the current holder of the European Union presidency, and EU Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, as well as Sarkozy, according to an AFP journalist.
The US president's session with the Europeans came after he held a second round of talks with China's Premier Wen Jiabao, and then Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
