Poland will become a "big country that counts" in Europe, said
Poland's new prime minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski this week. His
new regime promises a stronger voice in Europe, pushing more
conservative values within a policy of nation states in the EU.
A stronger role for Poland in EU decision-making is to be
welcomed - because of its size, the number of votes it has in
the European parliament and its geo-strategic position
between Western Europe and Russia. However the challenge for
Poland, as Marek Matraszek of the CEC public affairs agency
in Warsaw said, is to "work out how to have a positive
influence in Europe."
