(BRUSSELS) – The European Union adopted Monday its 12th package of sanctions against Russia, following its illegal war against Ukraine, including additional import and export bans, abd closing sanctions loopholes.

This latest package, which will take effect from January 1, 2024,  includes additional listings of Russian individuals and companies and new import and export bans.

Restrictive measures are imposed on an additional 61 individuals and 86 entities which the EUJ says are responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

Restrictive measures will apply to important economic actors such as AlfaStrakhovanie Group, one of the biggest insurance companies in Russia, Rosfinmonitoring, the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring, four telecom companies in the territories of Ukraine that Russia has temporarily occupied: LLC Mirtelecom, LLC SC Lyukstrans, JSC Krymtelecom, and JSC Beto and further Russian business people.

There will also be a ban on Russian diamond imports, as well as a phased ban on diamond imports from third countries beginning in March 4.

The package tightens implementation of the oil price cap with closer monitoring of how tankers may be used to circumvent the cap.

It includes stricter asset tracing obligations and tough measures on third-country companies circumventing sanctions.

plomatic support to Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes.
