EuroCommerce, the voice of the retail and wholesale sector in Europe, has expressed strong support for the European Commission’s Omnibus Package I on sustainability, unveiled today.
The EU Commission unveiled a package Wednesday to ease red tape for business by streamlining sustainability reporting and due diligence requirements across the European Union.
“To ensure the proposals in the vision for agriculture and food actually work, it is important to involve SME stakeholders in the design and implementation of these policies”, stated SMEunited Secretary General Véronique Willems.
EuroCommerce, representing the European retail and wholesale sector, views the European Commission’s Vision for Agriculture and Food as a starting point towards shaping the future of our agri-food system. However, the association urges the Commission to better acknowledge change requires the entire food chain to work together.
“The European Commission must ensure that SMEs are given a clear direction for their sustainability instead of being left wandering without direction”, commented Véronique Willems, SMEunited Secretary General, on the European Commission Work Programme for 2025.
SMEunited fully supports the Commission’s call for coordinated enforcement actions against the surge of dangerous, counterfeit or otherwise non-compliant products sold online and imported in the Union.
