Many businesses will find planning for no deal Brexit impossible

Expert comment on contingency plans for a No Deal Brexit from Nigel Driffield, Professor of Strategy and International Business at Warwick Business School.

"With 'no deal' seemingly now a serious possibility as the Government finally starts to set out contingency plans, many businesses are faced with the planning for Brexit.

"Many will simply find this impossible. They will not have the cash flow to stockpile components or other inputs, and will not be able to train new staff in the seemingly unthinkable event of large numbers of EU staff leaving.

"Equally, all firms need to pay far more attention to the supply chains that they are part of, certain firms may feel relatively insulated from the worst of this, but parallel suppliers may not.

"For example local suppliers to a car manufacturer may feel secure, but if that company cannot secure other key inputs, then output will be hit and all suppliers will suffer."
