Whether you like it or not, you simple have to pay taxes. It is unfortunately just part of life, which is, of course, also the case in the Netherlands.

However, no one wants to pay too many taxes. Instead we want to pay as little as possible, which is possible with the help of a few tips and tricks! This way you can get money from your tax return for sure, which could be a lot in some instances.

This is especially the case if you are entitled to a deduction. Beware that you might also have to pay online casino winst belasting in Nederland, which is the tax over your online casino winnings. You should definitely use the four tips mentioned below when paying taxes in the Netherlands.

    Use deductions

In the field of deductions, people in some instances lose hundreds of euros in tax benefits in the Netherlands. This is the case when completing the tax return, but it can also happen throughout the year. Therefore, you should definitely start using deductions. Unfortunately a lot of deductible items are not pre-filled by the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration for you, so you will have to do this yourself if you want to get these benefits. Even though this is a bit more work, it is definitely worth it. After all, you want to collect everything you are entitled to, right?

    Complete the tax return clearly

By being sharp when completing your tax return, it is possible to save a lot of tax. Every now and then you will even get some good ideas you can use when completing it in the following year. It might be mentioned in the explanation of the tax return that you just missed out on a tax benefit this year, for example. You can then use this information to act differently next year, so you can in fact benefit from the advantage. Besides that, you should round all amounts entered to whole euros in your favor.

Get the most out of healthcare costs

It might be possible to deduct healthcare costs in your tax return. This can only be done with specific healthcare costs, some are deductible while others are not. Did you not get sufficient healthcare costs to exceed the threshold? In this case you might be able to use all kinds of costs. For example, you could use the travel costs for doctor visits. Even short journeys can be utilized to reach and exceed the threshold so you can use this deduction.

    Donate to charity

On top of that, it is possible to save a lot of tax by donating to charity. This can be done if you fix the donation in advance for five years. Some people do not want to do that as they want to remain flexible when it comes to their donations. Do you prefer this? Good news! It is still possible to experience a tax advantage by donating to charity. In fact, it might be best to donate a lot and nothing every other year.
