Consumers within Europe are increasingly ordering parcels from webshops in other European countries. Because the internet connects us towards any place possible, it gives inside where low prices can be found or unique products.

The number of orders from webshops in European countries is growing rapidly. For example, in the third quarter of 2020, Dutch consumers spent 605 million euros at webshops across the border of The Netherlands. That is more than 30 percent of the same quarter a year earlier.

The fact that we order more outside our country is partly due to the corona crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic increased the speed of digital change in retail and wholesale. This trend is continuing and will accelerate even further. People are now used to buying online and will continue to do so. This effect is also clearly visible in the figures in the Netherlands. Sales at Dutch webshops in 2020 also rose sharply in the third quarter, it went up by 38 percent. More and more companies that are used to doing offline business are moving towards selling online and offline. Lockdowns have forced many businesses to make this move to be able to generate sales during the pandemic. Webdesign Friesland has the ability to transform companies into state of the art and futureproof online businesses that will generate extra sales.

The turnover of webstores grew by 31 percent. Dutch multichannel sellers, who have both a physical store and a web store, saw sales via the internet increase by almost 48 percent.

Analysis made over 2020 shows that Western Europe is still the most developed e-commerce market in Europe with around 69% market share of the total B2C online turnover and the highest number of online shoppers (around 83%), followed by Southern Europe with a market share of around 15%. Northern Europe (6%), Central Europe (5%) and Eastern Europe (0,9%) have the lowest market share.

To be able to generate these figures as an entrepreneur you must know how online e-commerce works. Linkbuilding bureau have developed skills and tools to support companies with establishing an online business or grow from an offline business towards both, an online and offline marketplace.

The internet is already in place and will develop with the help of the 5G network into a fast thinking and acting platform, into a society that allows many things being done by the online channel. ‘Generation Z’ and ‘Generation Alpha’ will claim the need for fast and responsive work and consumption which can be done by the internet.

Becoming an online webshop or starting an online website or platform is one thing, becoming online visible is the next step. There are approximately 450 million people living in the EU, which is a huge place for marketing and provides opportunities to sell lots of products or services. To reach out to these consumers by the internet you must work on your web design. Make your marketplace attractive for the customers. Webdesign leeuwarden is a player active on the market that is ready for you to organize these actions for your business.
