    More Than Just Light

Smart building lighting brightens spaces, it enhances the visibility of the occupants in a building but will as well have some limitations to it. Several things are looked into when installing a light in a building. It is hence not just having the lighting systems installed, it is more than just light.

Factors That Are Looked into When Installing Smart Building Lighting

There are several factors that could look into before installing lighting in a building:

    Chronological Time

Lighting Installation should factor in the times of the day. During the day, the lights say of the corridors could be kept off especially if the building has windows on the side that bring in the daylight. Motion sensors or timed sensors from say 6 p.m. to 6.30 a.m. could be installed when the night is coming in, so when people who check out of the office could have light to see their way out.

The motion and timed sensors could also be of great help to those who work during the night shift or for the janitorial staff and security personnel who work through the night. The sensors could also work well in the washrooms as they are frequently used. This could be effectively placed for use both during the day and night. This will also be a great advantage to the owners of the building in terms of cost as the energy will be consumed only when necessary.

The sensors are also an effective way to observe cleanliness and avoid touching surfaces especially in this era of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Sunrise or Sunset

This factor looks into how much light comes through the building depending on its location as well. There are places where a building could be located and there is clear and ample sunlight drawing through the windows of the building. Hence this is very necessary to look into especially in the foundations of the building construction.

    Occupants of The Building

Smart building lighting is also determined by the occupants of the building. For instance, the building could be occupied or rented out by a boutique/ clothing line, and they may want large windows that are see-through and people from the outside could see the clothes displayed on the inside. This could be a selling point for them as the people on the outside would be attracted and want to come in just by seeing the items being sold through the windows.

With the sunlight coming through the windows, it then means they would consume less on their energy consumption hence have less electricity bill which would be a plus for them.

Hence, the occupants of a building would influence how much light they want in a building.

    Events Happening In The Building

The events happening in a building will as well factor in how the lighting of a smart building will be installed. For instance, if the building is meant for conferences, then the people constructing would perhaps place the windows strategically in places where the outsiders would not peep through the happenings on the inside. However, the building still receives ample lighting from the daylight.

    Conditions of The Alarms Building

Smart building lighting must also include the installation of alarms in the building. Alarm systems are key for emergency moments such as fire or theft. To signal to the occupants of a building that a fire has erupted can only happen through an alarm otherwise the fire would spread all over without anyone noticing.

    Conclusion

Smart building lighting is not just about the light, it more than the light. When constructing a building, these factors should be looked into: chronological time, sunrise or sunset, occupants of the building, the events happening in the building, and the conditions of the alarms in the building. For the safety and comfort of the occupants of a building and the people in its surroundings, all of these factors should be looked into.
