    Publisher’s Note
    ================
    Airbus and seven European countries appear close to a deal
    on its troubled A400M military transport project. The seven,
    who have ordered 180 of the planes – designed to replace
    Europe’s ageing fleet of transport planes – for EUR 20bn,
    have been asked to cover cost overruns of around EUR 5.2bn.

    Airbus parent company EADS has threatened to pull the plug
    on the project and is looking for renewed commitment from
    its partners. With Airbus employing some 52,000 workers,
    of which 10,000 work on the A400M, a great deal is at
    stake for the European aerospace sector.
