Improving the quality of work should be a top priority in the EU, according to the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) in its Fourth European Working Conditions Survey.

Leipzig Charter will fail unless SME dimension is considered - UEAPME
UEAPME, the European craft and SME employers’ organisation, welcomed the adoption of a "Charter on Sustainable European Cities" at the Leipzig informal meeting of Ministers for Urban Development and Territorial Cohesion on 25 May 2007.

Commission misses its target on European Health and Safety strategy - ETUC
The communication from the European Commission on its new strategy on health and safety at work, presented on 21 February, boasts an apparently ambitious objective: a reduction of 25 % in the rate of accidents at work in the European Union. Yet it is the poorest strategy in terms of concrete initiatives proposed since the first Community action programme adopted in 1978.

Revised rules on "de minimis" State aid made more SME-friendly - UEAPME
UEAPME, the European SMEs' employers organisation, welcomed the amended rules on "de minimis" State aid as published by the European Commission today (Wednesday). By allowing loan guarantee schemes for SMEs up to a maximum of 1.7 million EUR, the Commission is ensuring the endurance of the most important and successful instruments for SME finance to date, which were under a serious threat in previous versions of the regulation.

European Accountants encourage MEPs to support one benchmark audit
In publishing a briefing note on Statutory Audits in the European Union, FEE (The European Federation of Accountants) notes that it is in the public interest if statutory audits of all companies are carried out in accordance with international standards.
