(VIENNA) - European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Thursday said he has not yet decided whether to run for a record third term.
"My mandate runs until October 2014, then I will make a decision about myself," the Portuguese head of the EU's executive arm since 2004 said in Vienna.
The 57-year-old also reiterated his call to the major European political parties each to put forward a candidate for Commission president in European elections in June 2014.
"This would give the elections a European dimension. The parties could then explain what they want for Europe," Barroso said, according to comments reported in German by the Austria Press Agency.
