18 February 2019, 17:10 CET

Amazon is one of the biggest retailers in the world. Over the years the company has been busy snapping up companies from Paris to Dubai. Jeff Bezos is not on the next mission to Mars, but he is busy trying to build an arsenal of his company. One thing you should know about Amazon is that once it wants something, it will get it. If it cannot beat the competition, then it will buy the leader.

It's similar to your desire to bet on Grand National horse racing – we are sure you have already done it if you wanted it. However, what makes Amazon's startup acquisitions special is how fiercely they want to do it.

What kind of companies has Amazon snapped?

Amazon can only be described as the Jack of all trades. It has bought companies from all industries ranging from Artificial Intelligence such as Orbeus, business and cloud distribution such as Nice, clothing and accessories, food and beverages and even hardware. The newest acquisition is Eero which was announced that it would soon be acquired by Amazon.

What is Eero?

If you have never heard of Eero then here is all you need to know about the company. If you have WiFi in your home, then you should have heard of this company. Eero is a router which provides your home with a fast and reliable network from multiple access points. You can be able to access WiFi in various parts of your even when you are not in close range.

Eero's routers also ensure that you are connected between various devices. Moreover, your peers can communicate with the cloud, and you all know how the cloud saves our data these days.

Setting up the router in your home is quite easy because in less than 10 minutes you will be connected to your WiFi. All you need is to plug Eero devices to your modem, and it can go round even in walls and hallways.

What kind of impact will Amazon have on Eeros?

Amazon would not be acquiring Eeros if it did not see any potential in the startup company. When the announcement came in from Amazon, it was clear that the company wants to improve it's home tech systems. Therefore adding Eero systems in the mix would take their technology to a whole new level.

In 2018, Amazon acquired Ring which is a home security company. It is one of the few companies which designs smart video doorbells; therefore even if you are far from your home, you can still monitor it. Therefore imagine when you have both Ring and Eero could mean that you have some of the best home tech devices in the industry.

However, some critics believe that Eero is going to compromise its originality, but that is something which we will know in the future. One thing is for sure Amazon is king in the retailer industry.

Which startup do you think Amazon will focus on next?
