What to Expect in Online Marketing Five Years from Now

01 December 2018, 13:52 CET

Online marketing is the most dynamic sector in the marketing world. Although we are living in the age of technology already, things are going to change a lot over the next five years as almost everything we know about digital marketing will evolve to a greater degree.

It would of course, be impossible to accurately predict everything that’s about to happen, but here are a few informed predictions that are the most likely to be proven true.

Restructured Google SERPs

Google is always trying to find a better way to represent search results, and in that attempt, they have put in multiple changes over the years already and more are yet to come. TrendiMarketing is an Internet marketing company that banks on promoting their client’s site to the very first page of relevant Google SERPs, and they can do that because of their awareness and experience regarding the constant micro changes that Google is always making. Depending on how fast businesses can adapt to these changes, these can make or break online businesses in the next five years or possibly much sooner.

Voice Over Type

Searching online with our voice is infinitely more convenient, faster and intuitive than typing out keywords, which is going to play a big part in the near future. The only reason why this has not become the standard mode of search yet is because voice recognition still isn’t very accurate or practical in real world scenarios. That is definitely going to change in 2019 itself, but in the course of the next five years, voice searches may even replace traditional searches as the number one way to use search engines. Everything from basic SEO to finding a target audience with the help of keywords will have to be changed accordinglywhen this happens.

Further Integration of Artificial Intelligence

We just discussed that voice search might replace typed searches soon, and if that really is to happen, it will depend greatly on how far and how fast the machine learning behind the voice search technology (natural language processing) evolves. On the other hand, automated chatbots are already providing support to customers and even boosting sales, while intelligent marketing tools on social media are generating leads and showing automated ads to target customers that are surprisingly relevant. It is anyone’s guess how much more artificial intelligence will evolve in the next five years, but there is little doubt about the fact that it will become an inseparable part of digital marketing in almost every step.

A Highly Informed Target Audience

Marketing in general has gone through a complete overhaul in the last decade and most of it has been brought on by multiple changes in customer behavior. As any digital marketing expert will tell you, businesses are now dealing with informed and aware customers online, who do not rely on fancy promotional ads to make their purchasing decisions. Instead, they would prefer to rely on facts and substance. This is a trend that is only going to grow in the coming years, making the future of online marketing rely heavily on putting out relevant content around the concerned products and services, rather than exclusively promoting them in the traditional way.

More or less, what we just discussed is already in motion, but in the next few years, they will evolve to whole new levels and that will eventually change digital marketing as we know it today.
