EU Agenda: Week Ahead - 25-29 March 2024
This week, EU environment ministers hold debates on a proposed revision of the waste framework directive and on a regulation on reducing microplastic pollution; farm ministers debate the agriculture situation and Ukraine; and the Commission holds conferences on reform projects to improve public services, and the establishment of a Multilateral Investment Court. The week's events in the European Union including EU Council, Commission and Parliament meetings from 25 to 29 March 2024.

EU environment ministers will hold policy debates on the proposed targeted revision of the waste framework directive and on the regulation on preventing pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution.
Ministers will also exchange views on the recent communication issued by the European Commission on 6 February 2024 on the 2040 climate target. Under 'other business', the Commission will present its mid-term evaluation of the 8th environment action programme (EAP) and its recent communication on climate risks management.

Agriculture and Fisheries Council

Based on information from the European Commission, agriculture ministers will exchange views on rapid and structural responses to the situation in the agricultural sector. The discussion comes as a follow-up to the work carried out by the Commission following the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting that took place on 26 February.
Additionally, the Council will discuss the market situation, in particular following Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian Minister for Agrarian Policy and Food, Mykola Solskyi, will address the Council.

Technical Support Instrument: new set of reforms for 2024

Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira will present the new set of reforms that the Commission will be supporting in all 27 Member States through the Technical Support Instrument.
The new round of reform projects will contribute to improve public services, foster competitiveness towards a net-zero economy and to ensure local and regional development.

Stakeholder meeting on the establishment of a Multilateral Investment Court

The European Commission is holding a stakeholder meeting on the multilateral reform of investment dispute resolution including the establishment of a multilateral investment court.
The purpose of the meeting is to update stakeholders on the latest developments in this area at the EU and international level and to exchange views on the latest relevant EU policy developments.
