With "Strengthening Crafts & SMEs for the Future of the European Union", the SMEunited General Assembly agreed on a coherent and encompassing policy document to reply to the upcoming challenges for Europe, and especially for its 24 million SMEs. The document is based on the 10 SME Policy Priorities put forward in the SMEunited Memorandum that compiles an impressive number of detailed policy orientations and concrete suggestions for measures helping Europe and its SMEs to get stronger. SMEunited emphasised these priorities in its campaign ahead of the European Elections.

"SMEs are at the core of Europe's economy and the fabric of our society, they are crucial for providing services and local products for the daily life of Europeans, for driving innovation and creating new jobs in the regions," emphasised SMEunited President Ulrike Rabmer-Koller when presenting SMEunited's new SME policy agenda for Europe.

As put forward by the "Bucharest Declaration", Europe needs more effective framework conditions for European SMEs through a long-term EU SME policy strategy. The strategy must have a clear vision for 2030, accompanied by a specific action plan including concrete measures and a timetable for implementation and monitoring mechanisms. "Today, SMEunited puts forward concrete policy actions and technical proposals, which should be at the heart of such a strategy," she highlighted.

"We hand over our SME Policy Agenda for Europe to the newly elected Members of the European Parliament and invite them to use our SME policy approach as an inspiration for their work and a source for question to appointed new members of the European Commission, when hearing them in the different Committees," she explained, "we also expect that the newly appointed Commission develop their next SME policy agenda in close cooperation with SMEunited."

She concluded by inviting policy actors to join forces "with our member organisations we are ready for dialogue with all European Institutions and interested stakeholders to define a new, holistic and forward looking European SME Policy for a stronger Europe."

SMEunited is the association of Crafts and SMEs in Europe with around 70 member organisations from over 30 European countries. SMEunited represents national cross-sectoral Craft and SME federations, European SME branch organisations and associate members. Combined, it represents more than 12 million enterprises with around 55 million employees across Europe. SMEunited is also a recognised employers' organisation and European Social Partner. SMEunited was formally known as UEAPME.
