SMEunited congratulates Ursula von der Leyen and her team for gaining strong support of the European Parliament. SMEunited President Ulrike Rabmer-Koller "hopes that the new European Commission will successfully tackle the manifold challenges ahead and reminds about the crucial role of the 24 Million SMEs, when Europe aims to improve economic welfare, to achieve sustainability and to protect societal stability".

President Rabmer-Koller in particular welcomes that the new Commission has already announced to present a dedicated SME Strategy, which SMEunited has strongly advocated for in the past years. Moreover, SMEunited invites the new Commission to refer to our SME Policy Agenda for Europe SME2024 as basis and for inspiration for concrete policy proposals.

"SMEs are at the core of Europe's economy and the fabric of our society, they are crucial for driving innovation and creating new jobs in the regions and for providing services and local products for the daily life of Europeans," said SMEunited President Ulrike Rabmer-Koller. SMEunited has always stressed the central role of SMEs in the European economy, and therefore the necessity for Europe to develop a more effective framework and a long term strategy for them.

In order to achieve such an ambitious goal, SMEunited has already put forward a concrete proposal, in the form of the SME Policy Agenda for Europe SME2024, published last June. "We invite the Members of the European Commission to use our SME policy agenda as an inspiration for their work, and we also expect that the newly appointed Commission develops its SMEs policy agenda in close collaboration with SMEunited" concluded President Rabmer-Koller.

Additionally, SMEunited offers its cooperation to ensure that a "European Green Deal", one of the flagship projects of President von der Leyen, will be economically and socially sustainable. A dedicated SME Strategy, as announced by the President-Elect, can make an important contribution to this aim and SMEunited will work with the new European Commission to create the best environment allowing SMEs to master the transition to a green, circular and digital economy. President Rabmer-Koller underlines the crucial role of SMEs in the fight against climate change, being more part of the solution than the problem, and the readiness of the SME organisation when saying that "only together, we can make Europe more united, stronger and forward looking to react to climate change, ensure fair globalisation, and foster digitalisation."

SMEunited is the association of Crafts and SMEs in Europe with around 70 member organisations from over 30 European countries. SMEunited represents national cross-sectoral Craft and SME federations, European SME branch organisations and associate members. Combined, it represents more than 12 million enterprises with around 55 million employees across Europe. SMEunited is also a recognised employers' organisation and European Social Partner. SMEunited was formally known as UEAPME.
