With a seat on the newly created permanent body, WWF will help shape EU sustainable finance policy to ensure it is effective and transparent, and contributes to EU climate and environmental action.

Sébastien Godinot, Economist at WWF European Policy Office, said:

"We are delighted to be part of this platform, which can play a critical role in making Europe's finances work better for the planet and people. Above all, we want to accelerate the shift from unsustainable to sustainable financial flows, for example by ensuring the forthcoming EUR225 billion in green bonds for the EU recovery funds upholds the EU's Green Bond Standards, and using the EU Taxonomy to track EU recovery funds' climate and environment spending."

A team of WWF experts on biodiversity, oceans, freshwater, and finance will contribute to WWF's advice to the Platform.

The Platform on Sustainable Finance is a group of experts which will advise the Commission on a number of topics, particularly the EU Taxonomy of Sustainable Activities, a key tool to determine which economic activities can be counted as sustainable.

The Platform is replacing the Commission's 'Technical Expert Group', which issued recommendations on matters ranging from the Taxonomy to the EU Green Bond Standards. The EU Green Bond Standard defines the characteristics a bond must have to be deemed green.

The European Policy Office helps shape EU policies that impact on the European and global environment.
