The main task of EDA is to support the Council and the Member States in their effort to improve the Union's defence capabilities in the field of crisis management and to sustain the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) as it currently stands and as it develops in the future.

The Research, Technology & Innovation Directorate (RTI) promotes and supports defence research at EU level.

Under the supervision of the Head of Unit Technology and Innovation, the Project Officer Emerging Digital Technologies will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • work on studies and projects within integrated teams under the responsibility of the RTI Director or of other Directorates; 
  • support and manage research studies or projects, including contracting activities, in his/her assigned area of responsibility; 
  • liaise with participating Member States’ representatives in charge of Defence R&T in his/her assigned area of responsibility of Emerging Digital Technologies; 
  • liaise with industry and suppliers involved in Defence R&T in his/her assigned area of responsibility; 
  • set up and maintain working relationships with external organisations dealing with R&T in the areas relevant for defence and security applications; 
  • identify the budgetary requirements and propose the work plan that will support the activities of the Captech Simulation; 
  • prepare, launch and follow the tenders and contracts related to studies in support of CapTech Simulation activities; 
  • organize and moderate the on-line activities on the EDA extranet in his/her assigned area of responsibility; 
  • represent the Agency at public conferences and seminars; 
  • take on additional tasks as required in the interest of the service.
