Innovation in healthcare: from research to market - SMEs in focus

An event entitled 'Innovation in healthcare: from research to market - small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in focus' will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 20 and 21 May 2010.

This conference will focus on SMEs operating in the health sector and on factors influencing their innovative capacity. The event will be a forum to highlight and discuss policy developments at European and national level, widening and enriching the research and innovation debate.

The programme, consisting of a number of plenary and parallel sessions, will be complemented by a small networking 'fair'. Conference sessions will include:
- 'EU-funded health research: creating opportunities for SMEs and innovation',
- 'Technology transfer: bringing healthcare-research to the market',
- 'Access to finance for SMEs',
- 'Ingredients for innovation: research and entrepreneurship',
- 'Instruments in place to support SMEs applying for a marketing authorisation',
- 'Experience of the centralised procedure, a case study of the Regulation on Advanced Therapies (1394/2007)'.

The event is being jointly organised by the Directorate-General of Research and the Directorate-General of Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission.
