Police arrest 35 in Europe-wide narcotics operation

(LISBON) - Police from nine European countries arrested 35 suspected drug traffickers during a joint operation involving 13 international airports, Portuguese police said Friday.

Besides Portugal, participating countries were Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg and Britain. The operation occurred over the course of four days last month, Portuguese police said in a statement.

In addition to 125 kilos (275 pounds) of cocaine, police also seized 64 kilos (141 pounds) of hashish and 7.3 kilos of heroin arriving from South America and the west coast of Africa.
