EU voices 'regret' at US bid at WTO on Airbus subsidies
(BRUSSELS) - The European Union voiced regret on Friday at a US decision to ask the World Trade Organization to create a compliance panel to force the EU to end subsidies to aircraft maker Airbus.
"We regret that the US has chosen to take this step, since the EU notified its compliance with its WTO obligations in the package of steps taken at the end of 2011, and the US has yet to do the same in the Boeing case," said the European Commission's trade spokesman John Clancy.
The US move is the latest chapter in a long-running battle with the EU over subsidies to respective aerospace giants Airbus and Boeing.
