(STOCKHOLM) - Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt hailed Saturday US President Barack Obama's decision to attend the end of UN climate talks in Copenhagen on December 18, his spokeswoman told AFP.

"It is positive that Obama has decided to take part in the final phase of the meeting, it will give political weight to the negotiations," Reinfeldt, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, said, according to spokeswoman Roberta Alenius.

"Hopefully, the presence of leaders from the most polluting countries will help lead the process forward," Reinfeldt said.

Obama originally planned to attend the UN climate conference next week, but the White House said Friday that he would now be there at the climax of the negotiations on December 18.
