Spain's Acciona to hire EU's Solana: report

06 November 2009, 11:50 CET

(MADRID) - The EU's top diplomat, Javier Solana, may be recruited by Spanish construction and energy group Acciona when his term ends this year, a Spanish newspaper reported Friday.

No one at Acciona, which late Thursday announced a management shake-up without mentioning Solana, was immediately available to comment on the report in centre-right daily El Mundo.

The paper, quoting sources close to the negotiations, said Solana would be adviser for international affairs to Acciona chairman Jose-Manuel Entrecanales.

It said an announcement was planned for January.

The daily said the former Spanish foreign minister and NATO secretary general is expected to step down in December after 10 years in the post, now that the EU's Lisbon reform treaty has been secured.
