(BUCHAREST) - The Romanian government on Monday proposed former agriculture minister Dacian Ciolos as EU commissioner, Prime Minister Emil Boc announced.

"This nomination will be submitted to President Traian Basescu who will officially transmit it to the European Commission," Boc said at the end of a government meeting.

Ciolos, 40, who studied in France, served as agriculture minister in Romania's last centre-right government led by Calin Tariceanu, and Bucharest would like to see him as agriculture commissioner.
