Israel's Netanyahu to meet EU leaders after US trip
(JERUSALEM) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will make a 24-hour visit to Brussels next week for talks with European leaders, an Israeli official told AFP on Saturday.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not say who the Israeli premier would meet, only that we would be in Brussels on Wednesday on his way home from a visit to the United States.
Israel radio reported that he would meet EU President Herman Van Rompuy and the prime ministers of Belgium, Italy and The Netherlands.
The Israeli official had no comment on media reports that Netanyahu would meet US President Barack Obama in Washington on Tuesday.
Relations between the United States and Israel have been strained in recent days. Washington was enraged when Israel announced, during a visit by Vice President Joe Biden, plans to expand settlements in largely Arab east Jerusalem.
Netanyahu is due to meet Obama's Middle East envoy George Mitchell on Sunday before leaving for Washington.
