Finland to build EUR 125m power plant in Mauritania
(NOUAKCHOTT) - Mauritania has signed an accord with Finnish manufacturer Wartsila for the construction of a 125 million euro ($162 million) power plant, the state news agency reported Tuesday.
The Mauritanian News Agency AMI said that the contract between Wartsila and Mauritanian power company Somelec was signed on Monday for a plant that will run on heavy fuel-oil and gas, providing the nation with 120 megawatts of electricity.
The generator will allow Mauritania "to double its current thermal production capacity" in Nouakchott by 2014.
It is the first part of a project to provide a total of 350 megawatts to the west African nation, with the gas to come from Mauritanian deposits.
