Greek position will be 'dramatically weakened' by 'No' vote: Juncker

(LUXEMBOURG) - Greece's negotiating position with creditors would be "dramatically weakened" in the event of a 'No' vote in Sunday's bailout referendum, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said Friday.

Juncker made the comment at a press conference in Luxembourg ahead of a crucial referendum on bailout terms on Sunday that could determine Greece's future in the eurozone.

He added that even if the 'Yes' vote wins, there would still be "difficult" negotiations ahead.

The radical leftist Greek government led by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras argues that a 'No' vote would help it negotiate better terms from its international creditors -- the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the European Central Bank.

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis told Irish national broadcaster RTE Friday: "If it's a 'No,' I can assure you that during this week of impasse we've had some very decent proposals coming from official Europe, confidentially."

But the European Commission denies that any talks are under way and EU leaders are calling for Greeks to vote 'Yes'.

An opinion poll out Friday by Greece's Alco institute said 44.8 percent of Greeks intend to vote 'Yes' and 43.4 percent are for 'No' -- the first published survey to give a lead to the 'Yes' camp.
