Obama meeting with EU leaders scratched

(LOS CABOS) - US President Barack Obama did not meet leaders of the European Union late Monday as planned to discuss the eurozone crisis on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Mexico, a White House official said.

"Tonight's dinner ran late, so the eurozone meeting was canceled for tonight. The president may have the opportunity for further meetings on the margins of the summit tomorrow," the official told reporters in the beach resort of Los Cabos.

The Obama-EU meeting was scheduled as the US remains worried that European leaders are not moving resolutely enough to contend with the debt crisis that is spooking global markets and paralyzing growth.

Obama fears the turmoil in Europe will drag down the broader world economy and torpedo his hopes of re-election in November.
