Trade unions set new Euro protest for Budapest, April 9

(BRUSSELS) - European trade unions announced Tuesday a new day of action against EU-imposed austerity budgets and moves to cut wages and lengthen working life.

The planned protest will take place in Budapest, Hungary, on Saturday April 9, where European Union finance ministers will be meeting to refine new guidelines for convergent economic governance across Europe.

Workers are called to say 'No' to austerity and demand a more socially just Europe, with fair wages, the European Trade Union Confederation said in a statement.

They said that "governing" Europe should not be about "social regression."

In London, hundreds of thousands gathered in London at the weekend in a demonstration that descended into violence, and scuffles also broke out at a rally around an EU summit in Brussels last Thursday.
